Walk Cycle Wheel Trust Big Walk and Wheel is a fantastic two-week initiative aimed at inspiring pupils to choose active modes of transportation for their journey to school. By opting for a more active commute, you not only enhance the health and well-being of your entire family but also contribute to reducing traffic congestion around the school. Furthermore, you play a significant role in reducing your carbon footprint and improving local air quality. And, of course, it's a whole lot of fun!

Join Gloucestershire Schools for the Big Walk and Wheel 2026! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Mark your calendars! The Big Walk and Wheel is back and taking place from 16 - 27 March 2026.

This exciting challenge inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality in their communities, and discover the benefits of active travel.

What is the Big Walk and Wheel?
The Big Walk and Wheel encourages pupils across Gloucestershire to walk, wheel, scoot, or cycle to school. Open to all primary and secondary schools, including SEN/ASN/ALN schools, participation is completely free, and there are fantastic daily prizes to be won!

How does it work?
Each day, schools compete to see who can achieve the highest percentage of active journeys. Your school’s best five days will determine your final position, but you can log journeys on all ten days.

Free Resources for Schools
Participating schools will receive free resources, including:

  • Curriculum-linked lesson plans
  • Assembly presentations
  • Top tips for success
  • An inclusivity guide to ensure everyone can join

Daily Prize Draws
Log active journeys, and your school could win equipment and accessories in daily prize draws! Schools with over 15% of pupils walking, wheeling, scooting, or cycling each day will be automatically entered.
