School Crossing Patrol

The friendly and reassuring presence of a School Crossing Patrol Officer (SCPO) is becoming less common these days. Changes in work patterns and lifestyles have made recruiting patrols a challenge for local authorities, not only here in Gloucestershire but also across the country.

Becoming a SCPO may not be the most obvious career choice, but it offers an excellent part-time employment opportunity that can fit well with various commitments, such as self-employment or studies.

Many of our dedicated SCPOs have served for several years and take great pride in their work. They are highly regarded by the children, adults, and schools they serve, as they play a crucial role in making journeys to and from school safer for everyone.

Interested in becoming a School Crossing Patrol Officer?

To become a SCPO, you don't need any special qualifications other than a strong commitment to carrying out your duties reliably, with care for the safety of children and consideration for other road users. The Road Safety Team ensures that all new recruits receive comprehensive training, and as council employees, they receive continuous support and supervision from a line manager. Uniforms for both summer and winter are provided.
